<summary>A visually encrypted “Arcane” of the first magnitude, this magnificent, wall-sized kaleidoscope of color by abstract expressionist action painter, poet and translator Jack Hirschman, San Francisco’s current Poet Laureate, will rejuvenate and resuscitate a languishing plain white surface with an exotic burst of dazzling and visionary reds, pinks, blues and greens.
Entitled &quot;Threefold&quot; (2004).

This is an ideal gift for the modern art collector, and one could easily imagine it in MOMA next to Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollack and Jasper Johns.

Painting in the tradition of Kline and de Kooning, Hirschman infuses a modern hip-hop ‘graffiti-esque’ into the abstract expressionist style of his own unique renditions, expressing at the same time some of the influences from the artistic circle of his own life in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Wallace Berman, George Herms, Dean Stockwell, Russ Tamblyn, David Meltzer, Bob Kaufman, Dennis Hopper, have been key figures in Hirschman’s inner circle of inspirations.

The painting seen in the two photographs below is approximately 6 feet by 6 feet, acrylic, tempera, chalk &amp; ink on unstretched canvas. It is signed “J.A.H. ‘04” in black in the bottom right corner.

There is an immense amount of information online about Jack Hirschman, his artistic circle and his influence; over 200,000 entries on google, for example. An excerpt from the current Wikipedia article on Jack reads as follows.

Jack Hirschman (b. December 13, 1933, in New York, NY) is a poet and social activist who has written more than 50 volumes of poetry and essays.Hirschman received… a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1957 and 1961, respectively. ….Hirschman taught at Dartmouth College and University of California, Los Angeles.. …he moved to San Francisco in 1973….His first volume of poetry, published in 1960, included an introduction by Karl Shapiro: …For a quarter century, Hirschman has roamed San Francisco&#039;s streets, and cafes, and readings, becoming an active street poet and a peripatetic activist. Hirschman is also a painter and collagist, and has translated over two dozen books from the German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Albanian, and Greek. …In 2006, Hirschman was appointed Poet Laureate of San Francisco by Mayor Gavin Newsom.
